w Linn Sondek LP12 Support South Africa – Main Bearing

Main Bearing

The main bearing was at one time the main focus of an upgrade path on the LP12. The original LP12 main bearing was made of brass with a hardened steel ball bearing. In 1974, the liner was changed to a more durable material and the grinding tolerance was tightened. In 1987, the bearing was further improved with a better lining material and even tighter tolerances. In 1993, Linn introduced the Cirkus main bearing kit. This kit included a new bearing housing, ball bearing, and spindle, along with new sptings, grommets, and inner platter. The Cirkus bearing was a significant improvement over the original bearing, and it is still considered to be one of the best main bearings available.

Note that how far you can upgrade depends on other factors. For example, you cannot upgrade to a Carousel bearing if you still have a Valhalla powerr supply.
